Is My Child Ready for Streamline Aquatics?
We’re thrilled you’re considering Streamline Aquatics for your swimmer! Our tryouts provide a great opportunity for both athletes and families to meet the coaching staff and experience the team environment. It’s not just about us evaluating your swimmer—it’s also about helping you see what it’s like to be part of our community.
Is My Swimmer Ready for a Tryout?
Before coming to a tryout, your swimmer should be able to swim the length of the pool using at least one of the four competitive strokes: Freestyle (Front Crawl), Backstroke, Breaststroke, or Butterfly. Tryouts are designed to evaluate readiness for swim team practices, which often include multiple lengths of the pool, so basic stamina is important.
In particular, we look for a legal or nearly legal breaststroke kick. This kick can be tricky for many beginners and may need to be adjusted during practice. Arm movements and timing will be developed over time, so we do not expect perfection.
What Should We Bring to the Tryout?
Please bring the following items:
- Swimsuit
- Goggles
- Towel
- Cap (optional)
- Water Bottle (optional)
We’ll provide any necessary equipment like kickboards during the tryout.
What to Expect at the Tryout
For new or junior-level swimmers, we will assess each swimmer’s ability to swim the four strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly. For experienced swimmers, we will evaluate stroke technique as well as strength, speed, and endurance—similar to what we do in a typical practice.
After the Tryout
Coaches will do their best to speak with families immediately after the tryout to share feedback and group placement recommendations. If that’s not possible due to scheduling, we’ll follow up via phone or email within a couple of days.
